OUR PHILOSOPHY

The Ballet Academy of Ballet Arlington is dedicated to quality teaching of classical ballet using the Russian method based upon the Vaganov syllabus.  This unique teaching method has been producing world-class dancers for nearly one hundred years among them such luminaries as Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Maya Pliesetskaya, Galine Ulanova, Natalie Makarova, Vlasdimer Malakov and Nina Anashiliva.  The legendary choreographer George Balanchine received his ballet training and first danced in Russia before coming to America.

Classical ballet provides the foundation for all other dance forms. It is the most demanding, most disciplined of all dance forms; but also the most rewarding.  With a solid ballet foundation, classically trained dancers can transfer their skills into jazz, modern dance or any other dance form they might decide to pursue.  Accomplishing that solid ballet foundation is crucial to becoming an outstanding dancer in any form.  The Ballet Academy of Ballet Arlington provides our students with that solid ballet foundation.

Quality Teaching

Quality teaching pays close attention to your child's artistic development.  But, of equal importance, quality teaching pays close attention to your child's health and safety, as well as physical and emotional well-being.  The Academy endeavors to help each student enjoy and treasure the hours devoted to dance training, encouraging them to love dance for the sheer pleasure and sense of artistic fulfillment, rather than only for a sense of technical accomplishment.

"Correction does much, but encouragement does more."
 Goethe

The Ballet Academy of Ballet Arlington provides a positive environment where every student is expected to strive for excellence to the very best of his or her abilities.  We, in turn, will always strive to make a positive contribution to the lives of our students and our community.  We will achieve this by giving students the individualized guidance and attention to which they are entitled; while instilling the value of commitment, respect, hard work, discipline and artistry.

LEVEL PLACEMENT

Placement is at the discretion of the Director of the Academy. Twice a year, Academy instructors will complete written evaluations of each student. In some cases, other professionals in the field will contribute to these evaluations. Class placement is based on age, experience, physical strength and ability. A student will not be placed above level because of schedule conflicts. Make-up classes are not available.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are available and can be arranged through the Director of the Academy or the Ballet Arlington office administrator. The Academy requests parents and students refrain from contacting instructors directly about private lessons as the Director of the Academy will make the appropriate assignment of faculty for the private lesson.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

Recital and Academy Performances:

Students of Ballet Arlington will perform throughout the school year, at different venues, with a culmination in the Spring at the Spring Recital.

Students of the Academy are eligible to participate in Ballet Arlington's full length production of the Nutcracker, scheduled in December of each year. The assignment of roles for the Nutcracker is completely at the discretion of the Artistic Directors of Ballet Arlington. Children who are cast are required to attend all scheduled rehearsals (Saturdays and Sundays beginning the 1st week in October). By agreeing to participate in the production, students and their parents indicate that they are willing to commit to the necessary rehearsal and performance dates. Absence from any rehearsal may result in dismissal from the cast. There is no fee for participation in the Nutcracker.

Ballet Arlington Professional Productions:

Students of Ballet Arlington Academy are eligible to perform with the professional company by invitation from the Artistic Directors only.
